The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has advised corps members in the country to embrace entrepreneurial skills and be employers of labour rather than searching for unavailable employment opportunities after their service year.

The NYSC coordinator in Ekiti state, Mrs Mary Chikezie stated this on Monday while speaking during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2021 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 orientation course at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Ise-Orun/ Emure-Ekiti

She underscored the importance of the scheme’s Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development ( SAED) they will be exposed to in the course of their service year, adding that white-collar jobs are not readily available for graduates in the country.

“Do not joke with the SAED Programme as white-collar jobs are no longer there. Choose to be an Employer today and not a job seeker,” she said.

Chikezie advised the corps members to be law-abiding and eschew all forms of social vices and that the camp court would soon be inaugurated to try and punish erring corps members.

According to her, ” Shun all negative vices like drunkenness, gambling, cultism among others as you will be witnessing the inauguration of the Camp Court in no distant time. This Court will try erring corps members and appropriate sanctions will be meted on such corps members in accordance with our Bye-Laws.”

On the third wave of the pandemic, the state coordinator said, “My dear compatriots, your call-up to serve the nation at this time when the whole world is faced with the new normal way of life due to Covid-19 shows that together we can win the fight against this dreaded pandemic; if we all adhere strictly to the preventive protocols laid down by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in our own interest.

“Gentlemen corps members, in a bid to guarantee the safety of all in camp, Management in collaboration with the NCDC put a lot in place in order to ensure the safety of all, during and after the camping exercise.

“It, therefore, behoves you all, to ensure that you strictly adhere to the stipulated protocols of constant wearing of masks, washing of hands regularly under running water, and sustaining physical distancing.

“This pandemic is a war that we have to fight individually and collectively. Remember that we have all signed letters of undertaking that we will abide by the safety protocols and any deviation from these protocols will amount to the decamping of such an offender.”

He disclosed that the three weeks camp activities were designed to prepare the corps members physically and intellectually for the service year.
