The ongoing strike embarked upon by resident doctors is a threat to the health of the masses. Apparently, many people were nursing various infirmities in their bodies before the doctors went on strike recently.
The Federal Government should proritise the demands of the resident doctors as these people are risking their lives in the course of treating patients, without considering the negative effects and the havoc that their the patients’ afflictions could wreak on their own health.
Some of these health workers have lost their lives since Covid-19 was detected in the country in February 2020. The people in authority should understand the fact that acquisition of wealth is nothing when there is no good health to enjoy it.
In this regard, massive amount of money should be annually allocated to the health sector for the welfare of health workers in the country. Increasingly, health workers are leaving the country’s shores, travelling abroad to seek greener pastures, as there is no good welfare package for them in the country.
Investigations revealed that a large number of great surgeons have left Nigeria for abroad where they are appreciated. These are experienced surgeons who are supposed to train fresh hands in the profession.
I, therefore, implore the Federal Government to reach a final agreement with the aggrieved resident doctors in order to put an end to their incessant strikes.
