The Ekiti State government has revealed that it would offer more support to the state office of the Sustainable Development Goals, (SDGs) to assist with opportunities for willing youths in the area of employment and empowerment opportunities in the state.

The deputy governor of the state, Chief Bisi Egbeyemi who stated this while speaking at the weekend on the activities to mark this year’s International Youth Day organized by the SGDs office in collaboration with the state ministry of youth, said the administration of Dr Kayode Fayemi would continue to support the youths in achieving their full potentials.

“The current administration in the state has done much to provide office employment for scores of jobless graduates, through its various recruitment exercises, but the obvious economic reasons would not allow all youths to be engaged at the same time, hence the need to look inward,” he said.

Egbeyemi urged youths to remain focused, innovative and creative, saying, ” a number of opportunities abound in non-office environment like agriculture, ICT among others for you to tap and grow your career.”

He also admonished them to shun criminal tendencies and time-wasting ventures, so as to guarantee their future.

Speaking at the event, the Special Adviser to the governor on Development Partnership/SDGs, Mrs Margaret Fagboyo, said the event was organised to exposed  youths on, ” how best they can use their quality time to plan on how to be self sustaining.”

She said the theme of this year’s International Youth Day, “Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health”, was apt, ” because it had the aim of highlighting that the success of youths would not be achieved without the readiness and meaningful participation of youths themselves.”

She commended the current administration in the state for always championing the issue of youth empowerment and active engagement with vision and creativity.

“We have the notion that the idea of the society is replenished by the creative and innovative ideas of the youth towards breaking barriers and extending and frontiers of knowledge,” Fagboyo said.

In a keynote address, Mr Michael Awopetu, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development who enumerated a number of measures already taken in the last three years of the present administration to help the youth grow and fulfil their aspirations, enjoined them to make use of the opportunities provided by the measures.

Earlier, the Dr Abimbola Solanke, the Senior Special Assistant, (SSA) to the governor on SDGs, asked the youths to regularly approach  the agency for information and education on available opportunities and how they can use them to advantage.
