The Wuhan municipal headquarters for the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) epidemic prevention and control on Friday issued a notification on revising the numbers of confirmed COVID-19 cases and fatalities in the city.
The authorities say that the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Wuhan as of the end of April 16 was revised up by 325 to 50,333, and the number of fatalities up by 1,290 to 3,869.

The death toll from the new coronavirus jumped by 50% in Wuhan, the original centre of the pandemic, after health authorities in the Chinese city announced revised numbers.
The number of deaths in Wuhan attributed to Covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, increased by 1,290 to 3,869, according to a notice from Wuhan officials published Friday by China’s official Xinhua News Agency.

The figure was adjusted to include people who had died at home and to correct earlier misreporting from overworked hospitals, Wuhan officials said in a separate interview published by Xinhua.
Epidemiologists, U.S. intelligence sources and residents have said they suspect Chinese authorities substantially undercounted coronavirus infections and deaths. Chinese officials have repeatedly defended the accuracy of their data.
The adjustment in the Wuhan figure pushed the death toll in China to 4,632.
Wuhan officials said they arrived at the new figure by double-checking data from medical facilities, crematoriums and testing records dating back to late March, and by revisiting records from prisons and nursing homes.
Authorities also increased the number of confirmed cases in Wuhan by 325 to 50,333 after the review, the notice said.
