In line with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) protocols for containing the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), journalists and other media department staff who attended Saturday’s burial rites of the late Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari, have been asked to self-isolate for 14 days.

This followed fears that they may have been exposed to the virus, which Kyari succumbed to on Friday.

An advisory notice, which emanated from the media office of the presidential villa on Sunday, said such persons were strongly advised to work from home.

The advisory signed by Attah Esa, Deputy Director (Information), State House, said: “As a precautionary measure, all State House Correspondents and Media Office Staff who covered/attended the funeral prayer/burial ceremony of the late Chief of Staff, at Defence House and Gudu Cemetery Abuja, respectively, are strongly advised to work from home for the next 14 days.

“Please be careful to observe the recommended measures to prevent coronavirus transmission, including maintaining physical distancing and good personal hygiene going forward.”

The ceremonies were covered by State House correspondents who had been permitted to remain on the beat while others had been barred because of the outbreak of the disease.
