Again Boko Haram insurgents ambush soldiers on patrol in Borno
Boko Haram Insurgent have allegedly ambushed another patrol team of soldiers of the Nigerian Army killing eight in the latest attack on Friday.
The insurgents after dastardly ambushing of the convoy were said to have destroyed about three gun trucks and carting some booty away to swell up their firepower.
A reliable security source hinted that the convoy which was moving from Monguno to Maiduguri was ambushed at Gasarwa village, not far from Gajiram which is a few km from Mungunu.
Sadly, according to the Intel, three gun trucks were allegedly rocketed and burnt down by the enemy while some of the deceased soldiers manning the trucks were rushed to Sector 3 headquarters by re-enforcements that were quick to dash to the scene from the super camp in Mungunu.
In a swift reaction to the setback, theatre Commander major general Olusegun Adeniyi rushed to the location of the ambush late Friday to see things for himself and to enhance the morale of the foot soldiers of the Army.
Restrictions on movement from Monguno to Maiduguri was imposed for normal combing of the area for remnants of the enemy as passengers going to Maiduguri by road were stranded for a while before the traffic was released.
Security situation according to sources in Mungunu which is about 137 km from Maiduguri remains stable as people were said to be going about their activities without fear of any latent threat as at Saturday morning.
Meanwhile, the Minister of defence Bashir Magashi a retired General is expected in Borno state this weekend to have a first-hand assessment of the progress being made in the lingering asymmetric war.
He will be a guest in Maiduguri till Monday next week when he is expected to return to Abuja with his entourage which includes senior members of the legislative arm of government.
Already, the Chief of the Army Staff Lt Gen Tukur Buratai is in town reviewing strategies with his various Generals who have since been tasked with going after the insurgents and ending the war which has lasted for about ten years.
Governor of Borno who has been an advocate of a plan B political solution to the lingering crisis on the round table may not be around this weekend as he is off to Japan with the Commander in Chief President Mohammed Buhari.
