Rivers State Governor, Barr. Nyesom Wike has said that no amount of intimidation or cruel resort to barbaric attacks will make the State succumb to the secessionist agenda of those he said are bent on plunging Nigeria into “another unwarranted crisis.”
The governor stated this while reacting to the overnight attacks on some police formations in the State in which about seven police personnel lost their lives.
In a statement by the Special Assistant on Media to the Governor, Kelvin Ebiri, Wike, who called an emergency Security Council meeting of the State, sued for calm.
Governor Wike, who presided over the meeting at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Saturday, condemned the attacks by the unidentified armed assailants and their Secessionist Agenda.
He expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the Policemen and the Rivers State Police Command.
“On behalf of the Government of Rivers State, I wish to offer our heartfelt condolences and express our deep sadness in the wake of these horrific attacks,” he said.
Governor Wike urged residents of Rivers State to be calm, adding that Security Council has taken measures to secure the State.
He further enjoined them to be vigilant and report any suspicious movement or persons to security agents.
