The Delta State Government, Tuesday, commenced training of over One Hundred youths in the State on Shoes and leather works manufacturing.

The Executive Assistant to the State Governor on Export Initiatives, Chief (Mrs.) Shimite Bello, while addressing the trainees in Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area of the State, during the flag-off of the First batch of the training program currently going on at the State’s Small and Medium Entrepreneurship Development Centre, Issele-Uku said that the trainees, after the completion of their program, would be equipped with Starter packs.

The first batch of the trainees which also included persons with disabilities, according to the Governor’s Aide, is made up of 40 persons drawn from the various Local Government Areas of the State.

Bello, while saying that the gesture is in line with the state Government’s poise towards scaling up its Human capital development, Infrastructural development and entrepreneurship drives of the Senator Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration in the State, added that the second and third batches of the training exercise will also, take place in due course.

She said, “Today we are gathered here for the flag-off and Inaugural meeting of the training of over 100 youths on leather works. However, out of the total 100 persons we plan to train, 40 are already here for the first batch.

“This is happening today because the State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa believes strongly in Human Capital development as well as Skill acquisition. This is important to him because, that way we would be recruiting people who would inturn become employers of Labour.

“Following his (Okowa’s) Stronger Delta mantra, what we are doing here today is another training program through which he, the Governor wishes to achieve another landmark in his Skill acquisition drive and entrepreneurship development initiatives in the State.

“This, no doubt, will go a long way in beefing up his vision of industrializing the State through entrepreneurship development just as those already trained, would not only be able to cater for themselves and their immediate families, but would become employers of Labour” Bello said.

She advised the beneficiaries of the training program to justify the State Government’s huge Investments in the project by taking the training exercise seriously.

Some of the trainees who included a 30 year-old-graduate of Banking and Finance, Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi,  Miss Edith Oghenewede, expressed appreciation to the State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa for the training which they noted would go a long way in beefing up their economic status.
