Another set of internally displaced persons (IDPs) has returned to their base in Bama even as the government of Borno state has finally closed down the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) camp to the IDPs.

With the closure, the camp has finally been returned to the NYSC almost seven years after it was taken over for the safety of the IDPs.

Speaking after the closure of the camp, chair of the resettlement committee, Engineer Mustapha Gubio, said that from today onwards the camp will be made available for the use of the NYSC who have been calling up their potential Corps members outside the state.

He said that all the IDPs from Bama, Konduga, part of Damboa and Jere have all been settled into normal lives while those not ready to go home yet were given homes in Auno to stay and live normal lives.

Responding to reporters questions on problems of water in the Auno Low Income Estate, the commissioner said that the government will renovate all the bore holes so that the people will be getting water as at when due.

Farms have also been laid out for them from Auno to Jakana to go back to their livelihoods said Commissioner of Agriculture Bukar Talba.

Some of the IDPs from Konduga, Kayamla said they preferred to go to Dalori estate instead of Auno where they buy packaged water for a hundred and fifty naira to take their bath.

But time will tell if the government will respond to their fears.

About 1,456 households made up of about 8,000 IDPs have been settled so far

A symbolic padlock was used to lock the gate of the NYSC camp and the key handed over to the acting camp manager.
