Governor Babagana Zulum has said that the celebration of Democracy Day in Borno can never be complete to him until education is fixed through effective services.

He said that regardless of the giant buildings which his administration has been able to use to provide classrooms for primary education, his joy can never be complete without quality personnel to build the children.

Zulum who is a tested academic from the University of Maiduguri made these remarks today in Maiduguri to mark the June 12 democracy day which could not hold last year due to covid 19 challenges.

The Governor vowed that from today till the end of his first term, he is going to concentrate on the effective services needed to restore primary education to where it should be from where he met it battered by insurgency.

“I am still not satisfied with what I am seeing in the primary school system of my dear state. I am talking about the quality of our teachers. It makes me sad and until I correct this problem, I will not rest.

“I went somewhere and in the process of talking to some teachers, I realized that they claim to possess NCE and some of them can hardly write their names. I was very dissapointed because this should not be happening to the foundation of education in this state.

” We will recruit more teachers the way we did for doctors. That is the only way we can be able to lay a new foundation.
We shall do all we can to correct that wrong in the system.

“Any teacher who is not trained would have to go back to school or be shown the way out. We can’t continue to sustain this wrong foundation in the system.” Said

The Governor called on stakeholders in the education sector to work hard with him to change the narrative for the sake of future generations and the entire development of the state.

“If you ask me on this June 12, I have not achieved much without education, health, and our security is fixed.” He said

To the Professor, these are priorities he has vowed to fix regardless of what happens by way of challenges in the next two years of his first term because they are far more important to him than a second term.

ON JUNE 12

Speaking on June 12, Engineer Zulum described it as a tribute to the existence of democracy in the country.

He assured that he was prepared to take the state to the next level in terms of dividends of democracy adding that lots of projects have been completed beyond the over five hundred and fifty-six projects in the last year.

“We shall however continue with free and compulsory education for the primary children for the first nine years of every Borno child” Zulum maintained.

He called on the civil servants to be dedicated to their jobs so that the state would be moved forward from the devastation by the insurgency to a renewed one.

Out of the 556 projects Zulum initiated in the last year, 387 have been completed while 169 are ongoing.

The highlight was a luncheon with the who is who in the state in the multipurpose hall in the government house.
