Hundreds of residents of Maiduguri thronged the main roads to welcome President Mohammadu Buhari who was on a state visit to the city today.
Most of them closed down their shops in response to the Governor’s plea that they come out in their hundreds to welcome the President who came to commission projects and ginger his troops fighting a ten year old insurgency war in North east Nigeria.
The entire city was shut down because of the President’s visit to ensure that he had a smooth passage instead of being mobbed along high ways as was the case during his last visit.
From Airport road to Jos and Kano roads to Damboa road it was like a political rally in which lots of young people and political stalwarts from the All Progressive Congress APC were present to welcome the President.
Residents of Shagari Low-cost were stopped from moving out of their residents as Navy officials blocked the Baga Road juction leading to Magumeri general area where the military super camp is located.
The entire Baga Road was lined up by students, parents and artisans shouting the praise of the President who they say had come to give them solace with more houses to stay in.
This medium, metrowatchonline.com recalls that the last time the Commander in Chief President Buhari visited the state to commission projects and ginger the state, he was booed and pelted by students and young people who kept chanting “ba mu a San” meaning “they did not want him” out of anger over the prolonged insurgency war which has swallowed almost 40,000 lives of both military and civilians.
After commissioning the housing projects, Buhari visited troops of the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army where he spent time gingering the troops to finally end the prolonged war.
