A Federal High Court sitting in Awka, the Anambra State capital, has declared Chief Edozie Njoku the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Justice Ngajuwa of the Federal High Court 1 also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue Chief Njoku with letter of recognition with immediate effect.
Ruling, the court also ordered INEC to recognize and ordered INEC to recognize and deal with only Njoku.
Patrick Ikweto, SAN, represented Oye in the matter at Awka as Oye’s application for joinder failed.
The judgement finally puts a nail in the coffin of Ozo Victor Oye’s tenure as the party’s national chairman.
It also places the governorship ambition of Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, who emerged the Oye’s APGA faction candidate of the Anambra State governorship election, in jeopardy.
Meanwhile, Njoku had emerged as the governorship candidate of the faction he leads.
Recall that in a related development, the Anambra State High Court sitting at Awka on 29th June, 2021, and presided over by Hon. Justice C.C. Okaa, refused the application by Oye through his counsel, P.I. Ikwueto, SAN.
Oye has prayed the court to extend or renew the earlier ex parte order of injunction restraining the Njoku-led National Executive Committee of APGA from conducting the party’s primaries to select its governorship candidate for the forthcoming Anambra State gubernatorial election.
Oye made the prayer on the ground that Chief Njoku through his counsel, Chike Onyemenam, SAN, and Jay Ezeuko, SAN, had filed an application challenging his jurisdiction to hear the case.
His lordship however made an order directing both parties to the suit not to take any further steps pending the hearing of the preliminary objection on Friday, 2nd July, 2021.
Njoku and his group later held the primary election which saw him emerge as the governorship candidate of the faction he leads.
