
Rivers State Commissioner for Urban Development and Physical Planning, Osima Ginah has called on the people of Asari-Toru Local Government Area to observe basic hygiene and obey the state government’s sit-at-home directive to check the spread of coronavirus.
Speaking during the distribution of foodstuffs by the leadership of Asari-Toru Local Government Area to the people, the Commissioner urged the people to continue to cooperate with the state government to keep the ailment at bay.
He said that though they face hardship due to the sit-at-home directive, the Rivers State Government has set up platform to distribute foodstuffs to the less privileged in the area.
The Commissioner added that the state Government will also empower fishermen and farmers from the area by purchasing their wares and distributing same to the less privileged.
He said: “With this they can stay at home because they know that this same government would provide food for them. I have also assured them that the state government has also bought enough food items that will also be distributed.
“My advice for other local government chairmen is to please respond to the plight of your people by sharing foodstuffs.”
He commended the Chairman of Asari-Toru Local Government Area for purchasing and distributing foodstuffs to the people of the area.
He said: “When you have good leaders,they respond to the feelings of their people and that is what the local government chairman, honourable Odiata Princewill has done. When I came in few days ago we had a discussion and he said today he is going to send food items to the residents of the local government area, both iñdigenes and non-indigenes.
“He has fulfilled his promised and I am here to witness the distribution of the various food items ranging from rice,beans to even containers for washing hand water.”
Chairman of Asari-Toru Local Government Area, Mr Odiari Princewill, said giving out food became necessary to ensure that the people have food to eat while observing the stay-at-home directive.
Chief Whip of Asari-Toru Legislative Assembly, Masinbo Lele-Taria commended that Local Government Chairman for the timely distribution of foodstuffs.
