Borno Governor Gives Relief Materials to 11,000 Vulnerable Residents

Borno Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum on Monday took care of humanitarian needs of 11,000 vulnerable residents of the state.

The governor, in the spirit of sacrifice of Easter did not stay back in Maiduguri, the state capital but sacrificed his holiday to travel to Gajiganna, a town in Magumeri local government in northern part of the state to supervise the distribution of relief materials to vulnerable.

The governor, was said to have taken leave of Maiduguri as early as 6am to Magumeri to directly supervised the distribution of cash, food and non food items to the vulnerable, comprised of over 6,000 women whom he gave N5,000 each and wrappers; and about 5,000 men (head of households) that were given  a bag of rice, a bag of maize grain and 3 litres of cooking oil.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the spokesman to the governor, the beneficiaries were mostly internally displaced persons in formal camps and within the host community of Gajiganna.

The governor was accompanied by the member representing  Magumeri at the Borno state assembly, Audu Mustapha, the Chairperson, State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Hajiya Yabawa Kolo and a few members of the State Executive council.

 Zulum, in the course of the distribution, carried out public health advocacy, calling on residents to maintain personal hygiene, ensure social distancing and avoid unnecessary gatherings. 

He warned that coronavirus is deadly and urged everyone to take responsibility in the fight against the virus. 

He said: ”We are all aware of the enormous challenges Borno is already faced with. As responsible Government we are doing everything possible to contain this virus from spreading into our state. However, this can only be achieved with your cooperation” 

Governor Zulum, while in Gajiganna, also paid a morale boosting visit to the military formation involved in fighting Boko Haram. The Governor interacted with the formation’s high command and expressed Borno’s appreciation to the Nigerian military for their sacrifices and determination to end the Boko Haram insurgency. 

Before returning to Maiduguri, Zulum assessed a closed Comprehensive Health Centre in Gajiganna, which he ordered its immediate reopening
