The Lagos State Government has directed Muslims across the state to observe their Taraweeh prayers from home during the Ramadan Fasting period.

Speaking with newsmen on Friday, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Prince Anofiu Elegushi, said that this was in line with the advice from the Holy Land.

Elegushi called on the Muslim faithful to pray from home everyday so as to observe social distancing in line with the preventive measures on COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

It could be recalled that Lagos  State Government banned all forms of social, political and religious gatherings in the state as well as gave a stay-at-home order to non-essential workers during the lockdown.

Saudi Arabia on Monday banned Taraweeh public prayers in Mecca and Medina, directing all Muslims to observe prayers from home.

He urged every Imam to direct all worshippers to pray from home when they make their call to prayers.

Elegushi wished all Muslims in the state Ramadan Kareem, while urging them to seize the opportunity of the Ramadan to pray for God’s mercies upon the state and Nigeria at large.

He said that there would be light at the end of the dark tunnel with the various measures put in place by governments all over the world and particularly the Lagos State Government.
