Shehu of Bama in Borno State, Alhaji Kyari El-Kanemi has joined his ancestors.  He was in his mid-60s at the time he breathed his last.

The ruler died on Monday at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) shortly after he was driven there by one of his aides.

The emir had a temporary palace after he was displaced by Boko Haram who captured his town and destroyed his palace at the peak of Boko Haram insurgency in the state.

He was driven to the hospital from his Maiduguri palace and was said to have walked with little discomfort into the hospital.

He was subsequently placed on admission and was declared dead of yet to be disclosed ailment two hours later.

Meanwhile, Borno State Government has confirmed the death of the king.

Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Babakura Abba-Jato, while confirming the death of the king, who was in his mid-60s at the daily briefing on COVID-19 in Borno, said the Shehu was known to have been battling with “protracted illness as many people of his age, often deal with.”

The Commissioner said the Shehu’s palace will announce funeral arrangements that will be communicated to members of the public.

Abba-Jato said the State Government stands with the Royal family and the people of Bama, the state’s council of chiefs and entire people of the state in this trying period.
