*Says Obaseki’s disqualification in order

The Kano state Governor Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on Monday said the All Progressives Congress (APC) will win the forthcoming Governorship election in Edo State scheduled for September this year.
The governor said he based his optimism on the fact that “there is high degree of mobilization” ahead the election.
He also threw his weight behind the decision of All Progressive Congress to disqualified Edo state Governor, Chief Godwin Obaseki, from participating in the governorship primary slated for June.
Ganduje, who told reporters at a media parley to mark democracy day, said that the political crisis in Edo politics is normal in any democratic dispensation, insisting that the APC is being conscious of the legal implications that may follow after the elections.
Ganduje explained that what mattered at the moment is the legal implications of the likely outcome of the exercise.
It could be recalled that the Edo state governor Chief Godwin Obaseki was disqualified by National screening committee of the APC from consisting in the governorship primary over discrepancies in the dates on the Obaseki’s university of Ibadan certificate, the authenticity of his NYSC certificate presented to the Committee.
Ganduje explained that the APC was being cautious not to fall into another pit hole, whereby after the election, the party might enter into another round of legal battle, which may not augur well for the party’s credibility.
According to him, the issue of the crisis in Edo over the election is normal in any democratic setting, adding that other political parties are also embroiled in crisis but, as far as this issue is concerned, we are more worried about legality we have to follow rules and regulations, while conducting our affairs for the election.
”We believe the national headquarters, as far as Kano State is concerned, is doing all what it takes in order to see for the success of the APC in Edo election.
Ganduje, said the party is also mindful that all the procedures are followed and we believe we will win the election because there is high degree of mobilization and as such we are conscious of legal issues, pertaining to elections.
”We are all aware on how the APC won the election in Bayelsa state, and due to legal issues, we lost that election, so the party is fully conscious of that, so therefore, the party does not want to overlook certain issues, as far as election procedures are concerned.
“We are following our party’s constitution and manifesto, we are following the electoral law, we are following the Nigerian constitution in trying to manage our election issues in the party, which is very important.
