The National Taskforce for the Prohibition of Illegal Importation/Smuggling of Arms, Ammunition, Light Weapons, Chemical Weapons and Pipeline Vandalism (NatForce) has threatened to drag the Nigerian Police and other agencies, for preventing and harassing their staff from carrying out their lawful duties.
Director General of NatForce, Chief Osita Okereke, who made this known in a press briefing yesterday said that a N20billion law suit would be instituted against the Police, because the intimidation and detention of its operatives who are carrying out legitimate assignments will no longer be tolerated.
Okereke was speaking on the heels of alleged arrest and detention of his staff by the Police in some states such as Delta, Kogi, Jigawa and Sokoto states.
“Let me use this medium to warn the Police against continuous arrest and harassment of my men and officers, they must desist from such, including other security agencies like NSCDC amongst others. We shall not tolerate it anymore.
“We have vowed to resist the unwarranted and illegal arrest of our personnel, because the Federal High Court judgement in 2011, as well as that of the Appeal court in 2019 had ruled in our favour given credence to Natforce existence.
