8 Nigerian Startups Make Google For Startups Accelerator Africa Class 5

Google for Startups Accelerator Africa, a business program supporting early-stage growth-driven brands via mentorship and financing has announced its fifth class.

In a statement on Monday, the US firm disclosed new developments for the project, stating that it would now proceed online as one combined class of 20 startups rather than the two annual classes.

The tech giant also noted that the programme will run for the usual 3 months, with a one week ‘virtual bootcamp’ per month, from June 29 until September 11, 2020.

The selected pool of startups for the 2020 programme spans those from Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tunisia, and Zimbabwe, with Nigeria alone earning a total of eight slots.

Among the Nigerian startups was Credpal, which develops consumer credit infrastructure to ease credit purchases and enable retail businesses provide on-demand credit for consumers in Africa.

Others are Crop2CashCuracelFestival CoinsJudySendSend, and The Smarthub.

Since its launch in 2018, Google for Startups Accelerator has worked with 47 startups from 17 African countries spanning Algeria, Botswana, Cameroon, Côte D’Ivoire, Egypt, and Ethiopia.

Other countries that have also participated in the Google-powered programmed are Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.
