Party Crisis: Withdraw Cases From Courts, Defiant APC Members Urged

Immediate past acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ntufam Hilliard Eta, has urged party members across the country who still have pending litigations in courts, on party matters, to withdraw such in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive.

President Buhari, while dismantling the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), as a way of returning peace to the then fractured party, last month directed party members with pending cases in court to withdraw such or face the wrath of the party but some members have remained defiant.

Eta made the appeal in Abuja while speaking with journalists on his recent victory at the Federal High Court, Calabar, Cross Rivers.

Recall that on 24th June, 2020, Mr Ushie Eneji and Mrs Euginia Takon in the Federal High Court of Nigeria in the Calabar Judicial Division filed a suit with file no: FHC/CA/CS/52/2020 against Eta, the APC, INEC, and IGP seeking an order of perpetual injunction restraining Eta from parading himself either as the national vice chairman South-South Zone or as acting national chairman or as a holder of any office of the second defendant, until his suspension by his ward is lifted.

But while deciding the case on Tuesday, Justice Simon Amobede ruled that the duo had no locus standi to suspend Eta, as matters of disciplinary actions are party affairs and are not to be decided by the Court.

The court also reserved that the immediate past National Chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, and the party’s leadership had constituted the Edo State primary election committee before he left office, and that Eta merely inaugurated the committee, as acting national chairman, in line with the party’s constitution.

While speaking further, he canvassed support for the current Caretaker Committee of the party even as he noted that it was only by doing so that the party could deliver benefit of democracy for all and sundry.

Consequently, he urged party faithful, especially in Edo and Ondo states to vote for the party’s candidates in the Governorship election holding before the end of the year in the two states.
