Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will lift the suspension it slammed on the House of Representatives minority leader, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, and his group for flaunting the party’s choice of Hon Kingsley Chinda for the seat.

LEADERSHIP gathered that prospects of lifting the suspension on Elumelu and his group emerged after a meeting between the NWC and the leadership of the PDP Caucus in the House led by Chinda last Wednesday.

The party leadership had met with Chinda’s group over plans to ensure that PDP is united in the National Assembly ahead of amendments to the Electoral Act.

Recall that Elumelu, Hon. Wole Oke, Hon. Lynda Ikpeazu, Hon. Anayo Edwin, Hon. Gideon Gwadi, Hon. Toby Okechukwu and Hon. Adekoya Abdul-Majid, where suspended by the NWC shortly after they emerged minority leaders of the House on July 9, 2019,

The party slammed them for indiscipline, insubordination and disobedience.

However a source at the NWC meeting on Wednesday told LEADERSHIP that the party’s leadership agreed to lift the suspension of Elumelu and other after Chinda noted that it would be difficult to have a united front ahead of amendment on Electoral Act if they remained suspended.

It was learnt that Chinda’s position provided a window for the party leadership to resolve House minority leadership crisis.

The source further stressed that because of the exigencies of the amendment to the Electoral Act,  the party will deliberate on lifting the suspension at their next meeting.

It was however gathered that the party would continue with the current leadership structure which sees Chinda as PDP Caucus leader while Elumelu remains the House minority leader.

The national publicity secretary of PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan did pick phone calls over the matter.
