The Presidential candidate of Young Progressive Party (YPP) in the 2019 elections, Dr. Kingsley Mohgalu has defected to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) .
This was made known by the spokesman of the APC in Anambra state, Arc Okefo Madukaife in an exclusive interview with Elombah. com.
The APC Publicity Secretary said, “if Senator representing Anambra South, Senator Ifyeanyi Ubah left the YPP what is left for the party.
“Don’t forget that their Presidential candidate , Kingsley Mohgalu has decamped to APC , if you remove Senator Ifyeanyi Ubah from YPP who is left in YPP. What is the structure, what is the policy.
When asked further for clarification on the defection, he said, “I am informing you go and check, Dr. Mohgalu is no longer in YPP. Mohgalu is suppose to be the leader of the party. ”
It could be recalled that in February 2018, Moghalu declared his interest to run for the presidency of Nigeria. He chose to run under the platform of the Young Progressive Party.
On 4 February 2019, Moghalu paid a courtesy visit to the Ooni of Ife ahead of 16 February Presidential election. He declared his interest to run for presidency under the political party of Youth Progressive Party (YPP). Ooni of Ife spoke on how passionate Moghalu was during his presidential campaign.
He further said he likes the courage, the passion and his selfless control to serve his fatherland
Moghalu served as deputy governor of financial system stability and the director of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from 2009 to 2014; he led the implementation of reforms to Nigeria’s failing banking sector. He is a member of the International Islamic Liquidity Management Corporation and non-executive director of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria.
In early 2014, Moghalu distanced himself from the suspended head of CBN, Lamido Sanusi. Sanusi alleged a $20 billion fraud at the country’s publicly owned oil corporation.
Moghalu expressed frustration that Sanusi had overstepped his role as the head of the central bank and crossed into political activism, but emphasized his support for Sanusi’s leadership in monetary policy.
