COVID-19: Yobe Molecular Lab Begins Operation, Test 98 Samples At Once

The Yobe State COVID-19 Prevention and Control Committee says the Molecular Laboratory provided in the state for testing coronavirus disease has commenced operation with the capacity of testing 98 samples at a go.

The Chairman of the Committee and the State Deputy Governor Hon. Idi Barde Gubana while briefing newsmen in Damaturu said the molecular lad was at the Yobe State Specialists’ Hospital Damaturu and already 40 samples were tested with one positive and 43 waiting.

Gubana said, “The Molecular Lab has started working so far with 40 tested, 43 waiting to be tested, 1 positive. The total number of COVID-19 cases in Yobe state is 362 where 225 turns negative, 67 confirmed cases with 8 deaths, 2 active cases and 59 discharges.”

The chairman who emphasized the need for utmost adherence to prevention and control measures of coronavirus disease said in the few days, the committee was able to embark on a massive campaign among other support for the safe reopening of schools for SS3 final exams.

“The committee successfully supported the ministry of education to safely reopen schools for students in SS3 and JSS3 who are preparing for their final exams,” Gubana disclosed.

In line with the Federal Government directives, the committee has also instructed grade civil servants to resume work as from Monday the 17th of this month.

He said, “Civil Servants on grade levels 1-12 are hereby directed to resume normal working hours with effect from Monday August 17th, 2020. Heads of MDAs are directed to put in place and ensure full observance of COVID-19 protocols.

“Citizens are reminded that wearing face masks in all public places is mandatory and should be strictly observed,” the chairman explained.

While assuring that the administration of Hon. Mai Mala Buni will not relent in providing measures that will ensure the safety of the people equally directed Banks, Markets and other private organizations to ensure social distancing among other COVID-19 protocols.
