The people of Ogu community in Ogu/Bolo local government area of Rivers State, have sent a Save-Our-Soul (SOS) message to Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike and security agencies following incessant attacks and killings of indigenes of the community.

The people said the latest incident was the kidnapping and killing of a prominent indigene of the community, Mr. Godknows Opuda, at a spot opposite a secondary school at Eteo, a neighbouring community in Eleme local government area of the state.

Addressing newsmen at Ogu yesterday, the Amanyanabo of Ogu, King Nicholas Nimenibo, Loko X, said the community can no longer tolerate the series of attacks and killings of its indigenes.

Nimenibo, who spoke through the Chairman of Ogu Divisional Council of Chiefs (ODCC), Chief Spiff Mica Taribo-Amgbara, appealed to the state government and security agencies to come to the rescue of the community.

He stated that the attacks on the people of the community, which started as far back as 2014, reached its height this September, 2020 with Opuda’s gruesome murder.

The monarch said although the state government knows about the attacks on the community, it was yet to write it formally to complain about.

He said: ‘’We however have continued to dissuade our youth from reprisal attacks as we have not pointed finger at our neighbours with whom we have lived peacefully for long.

“We are hopeful about the state government promise to intervene in our plight as the attack has increased in frequency since January 2020.”
