FRSC Engages NEMA ahead of Christmas Celebrations

Port Harcourt, Oct. 13, 2020 (NAN) Rivers State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Wednesday recommitted to deepening collaboration with key emergency response agencies ahead of the Christmas celebration.

The sector commander, Corps Commander Salisu Galadunci, made this known during a familiarization visit to Mr Ibarakumo Walson, South-south zonal Director, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Port Harcourt.

Galadunci said that a robust synergy would help the command respond promptly to accident situation especially during the end of year special patrols and other emergency situations.

On that note, he pleaded with NEMA to deploy it’s equipment and personnel at designated areas of the state to further consolidate on the command’s efforts on accident management.

The FRSC boss also requested the Zonal Director of NEMA to verify the functionality of it’s surveillance masts which were sited at the Sector Command in Port Harcourt and its Isiokpo Unit to ascertain if they were in good condition.

“All surveillance equipment should be tested and trusted to be in good condition, this will enable citizens contact us in case of emergencies especially in this trying moment occasioned by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Describing the visit as timely, the Zonal Director commended the FRSC on its various  efforts to accident and traffic management.

 “This visit couldn’t have come at a better time than this when NEMA is faced with numerous challenges of natural disaster emergencies in the South South States.

“Nevertheless, I shall assign the communications officer to verify and service our  surveillance masts sited at the FRSC offices for optimal usage,” Walson said.

 The NEMA boss also pledged readiness to cooperate with the Corps when ever the need arises.

“The FRSC and NEMA are members of National Emergency Response Team set up by Federal Government years ago to tackle quickly all kinds of emergencies in the country, we would not relent on this mandate,” he said.
