Men, a special breed fashioned after God, but which the society ascribed a different role. The society has conditioned men in such a way that even when they feel pains, they are not expected to cry because they are men. They have the burden a billion times their body mass, yet they carry it without complaining.
Men fight wars to protect their women and children. They go out everyday to provide for their families. They face danger and walk through the valleys of the shadow of death in their everyday quest to make like better for people under their care.
Men will go on empty stomach so that their wives and children will eat. They will wear only one shirt to make sure the people under their care have clothing. They will sleep out in the cold to make sure their loved ones have roofs over their heads.
The number of widows around the world simply tells you that most men die prematurely all in their bid to give better life to people around them. I once came across a Facebook post asking who one would want to spend ten minutes with if they were given the chance, and to my greatest surprise, 98 percent of the comments on that post were saying their father.
What it means is that 98 percent of the people that commented on that particular post have lost their Dads.
Men sacrifice a lot with little or no recognition because they are men and are expected to make such sacrifices. The pressure from the society often push some of us to crime, just to meet up their manly responsibilities.
To all the men in the world, and especially Nigeria, remember to do what you can and leave the rest, because you can’t do everything.
Learn to give yourself a treat because we think more of others and tend to forget about ourselves. Cry when you are in pain, then wipe your tears and move on.
To be a man is really not a day’s job!
