The Executive Secretary, Management and Staff of the National Human Rights Commission have congratulated Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, the first woman, and the first African to be chosen as the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
According to the Commission’s Executive Secretary Tony Ojukwu Esq., the appointment of Dr. Okonjo Iweala is very significant to Nigeria, saying “it is a thing of pride and indeed a major breakthrough for women all over the world and for Nigerian women in particular”
Ojukwu called on relevant authorities to give women the opportunity to excel in their chosen endeavours without any form of discrimination.

He said he has no doubt in his mind that the new DG will use her expertise and discipline to address the economic and health consequences ravaging the world as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He expressed confidence in Dr. Iweala’s capacity to reposition Nigeria and the world on a stronger economic pathway.
The human rights called on all stakeholders to give her the necessary support she deserves to do her work seamlessly.
He boss used the opportunity to commend the action of the World Trade Organisation for the confidence reposed in Nigeria’s Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and her ability to head the WTO.
”Her era will usher in global economic stability and prosperity,” he added.
