Amusan, Brume Begin Salvage Mission For Team Nigeria In Doha 2019 100m Hurdles, Long Jump

Nigeria’s bid to halt her winless run from extending to the third consecutive IAAF World Championships begins today (Saturday) inside the mainbowl of the Khalifa international stadium in Doha, Completesports.com reports.

With shot putter, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi’s chances in the final this evening not very bright, Nigerians have turned to petite sprint hurdler, Tobiloba Amusan and long jumper, Ese Brume for podium appearances in Doha.

Amusan will be competing in the first round of the 100m hurdles and she is expected to easily secure one of the four automatic tickets to Sunday’s semifinal. The reigning African Games champion is the fourth fastest woman in the world over the distance so far this season at 12.49 seconds and she has been drawn in the same heat with Janeek Brown who ran 12.40 9 in June to win the sprint hurdles title at the 2019 National Collegiate of Athletics Association (NCAA) championships.

Like Amusan, more is also expected from Brume whose 7.05m leap in Bursa,Turkey early August is the second longest jump in the world this year.

Brume only needs to jump 6.75m, the qualification mark set by the IAAF to qualify for her second global final after finishing fifth at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, Brazil.
