The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) board has approved the promotion of 284 intermediate officers to their next ranks and disciplined nine others, according to Assistant Corps Marshall (ACM) Bisi Kazeem.
Kazeem, the Corps’ Public Education Officer (CPEO), who announced this in a statement made available to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday, in Abuja, revealed that the promotion takes effect from July, 2021.
He added that the approval, which came at the end of a meeting of the Commission on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, confirmed the promotion of 62 Assistant Corps Commanders (ACC) to the rank of Deputy Corps Commander (DCC).
A further breakdown showed that 44 Chief Route Commanders (CRC) were promoted to the rank of Assistant Corps Commander (ACC), 50 Superintendent Route Commanders (SRC) to the rank of Chief Route Commander and 128 Route Commanders to the rank of Superintendent Route Commanders (SRC).
“At the same sitting, the board equally meted punitive actions on erring officers, amongst which two officers were dismissed”, adding that the appointment of two officers were also terminated.
“One officer was awarded reduction in rank, while three suffered loss of seniority and one was awarded severe reprimand.
“The punitive actions given were as a result of varying offences committed in service,” he said.
Kazeem quoted the Commission’s Chairman, Mallam Bukhari Bello, as expressing delight over the level of transparency and objectivity that attended the entire process.
He urged the promoted Officers to show more commitment and continually dedicate themselves to achieving the corporate mission of eradicating road traffic crashes and creating a safer motoring environment in the country.
Kazeem described the promotion exercise as part of the Commission’s drive towards rewarding excellence, diligence and hard work, saying that it was also in line with the philosophy of the present leadership of the Corps as embedded in the tripod of CRP, meaning; Consultation, Reward, and Punishment.
He added that the Corps Marshal, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi, had equally congratulated the newly elevated officers for their excellent performances, noting that every promotion comes with greater responsibilities.
Boboye, therefore, charged them to put in their best in the course of their duties as the new rank called for more focus, more dedication, commitment and passion.
He urged those who were not fortunate to be promoted, to keep faith alive and hope for the best as opportunities still abound for promotion in the future.
The Corps Marshal pledged to improve the general welfare of the personnel of the Corps to the satisfaction of all,” he said. (NAN)
