There was outrage in the Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State as two worshippers returning from night vigil on a motorcycle were reportedly shot death by suspected cultists.

It was gathered that one of them died on the spot while the other who fled with bullets wounds later died.

A community source told our correspondent in Uyo on Monday  that the duo were shot dead at about 4am at Ikot Ese community.

The victims were identified as Nkereuwem Ekere and Effioyo Emmanuel.

“These people were returning from a night prayer at the New Church in Ikot Ese village. They own a gospel band that some churches and other events planners would hire for their occasion.

“The left the Church as early as 4am on motorcycle heading towards Okoyo, but were ambushed few meters from the church and shot dead.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Odiko Macdon, said he had yet to get official report  regarding the incident.
