The Adamawa State Government says it only suspended boarding facilities in schools but did not close any school.

The government said in a statement late Monday evening that it did not close any school as was reported in some mediums.

The state Ministry of Education was widely reported on Sunday as announcing closure of 30 boarding secondary schools across the state for security reasons.

In a statement signed by Humwashi Wonosikou, the Press Secretary to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, the government explained that a Ministry of Education statement earlier quoted and reported on Sunday was categorical on deboarding and not total closure.

It said the Commissioner of Education and Human Capital Development announced that 30 Boarding Junior Secondary Schools out of the 34 in the state were deboarded with effect from 6th September 2021

“The State Government did not close schools, but directed for deboarding of the affected schools and to revert to day schooling due to the prevailing security situation in some States,” the statement from the Government House in Yola said.

It added that the government was concerned about the confusion the report of closure of schools caused the public, stressing that although the government decided to suspend boarding in the affected schools for security reasons, it will not close the schools because it would not leave anything to chance in ensuring proper education for its citizens.
