COVID-19: Ogun State deserted as lockdown begins [PHOTOS]
Residents of Ogun State on Saturday remained indoors as the Coronavirus lockdown took effect on Friday night.
President Muhammadu Buhari had ordered the state, alongside Lagos and Abuja, to shut down all activities until the spread of the Coronavirus is controlled.
DAILY POST reports that the people of the Gateway State complied with the stay-at-home order of the government.
Our correspondent, who visited major areas of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital reports that offices and shops were under lock and key.
Markets and motor parks in the metropolis were also deserted as there was no single person in sight.
However, our correspondent reports that some filling stations and eateries opened for business, but there were no buyers to patronise the businesses.
Unfortunately, those on essential duties were seen trekking long distances to their places of work as there were no bikes or taxis to convey them.
From Kolobo to Panseke, Okelewo, Omida, Leme, Oluwo, Adigbe, Sapon, Itoku and others, there was total compliance with the restriction order.
DAILY POST gathered that it was the same situation in other parts of the state like Iperu, Ota, Ijebu-Ode, Sagamu, Ipokia, Mowe and others.
Men of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and others were seen at strategic locations, enforcing the lockdown.
Our correspondent noted that so far, security operatives have been civil and professional in addressing one or two persons found on the road.
In some areas, the youths took advantage of the empty road to play football, perhaps in a bid to keep busy.
However, the majority of those who saw our correspondent as he moved around kept asking, “When is Gov Dapo Abiodun bringing the food items?”
Meanwhile, Gov Abiodun, yesterday announced that his government would start the distribution of food items from Sunday or Monday.
