Coronavirus: Confusion in Ogun as NCDC, Gov Abiodun give conflicting figures

The Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) appear not to be on the same page over the number of COVID-19 cases in the State.

While Gov Abiodun said the figure has increased to six, the NCDC insists Ogun has only four cases.

DAILY POST recalls that Abiodun, during a press briefing on Monday, announced that Ogun State has identified two new cases of Coronavirus, saying the state now has six cases.

According to him, the two new cases did not have travel history, nor had contacts with any positive case, wondering how they contracted the virus.

The Governor said one of the two cases is from Yewa South Local Government, while the other is from Mowe, in Obafemi Owode Local Government area of the state, adding that they have been moved to one of the isolation centres in the state.

However, DAILY POST observed that the NCDC, on Wednesday, announced new cases of Coronavirus across the nation, but Ogun was not among the states with new cases.

Contacted, Gov Abiodun, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin, said he would not know why NCDC has not updated its data to reflect the present reality in Ogun State.

Somorin said “the Governor has told us what is on ground in Ogun State. I align myself with the Governor’s position.

“The Governor has given you a number. Find out from NCDC why it has not updated its data. It is not for us to know. We don’t know.”

Efforts to reach the NCDC were unsuccessful as all its lines were switched off.

Also, a message sent to its official Twitter handle, @NCDCgov, was not replied since yesterday.
