Yobe begins disinfection of public places, settlements against COVID-19 [PHOTOS]

The Yobe State Government through the state’s COVID-19 Prevention and Control Committee, has commenced disinfecting public spaces in Damaturum, the state capital against the novel Coronavirus.

The move was in realization of the philosophies of ‘desperate times call for desperate and stringent measures’ aimed at maintaining zero case status of the state.

The exercise is expected to be extended to the remaining 16 local government areas of the state where 27 fire fighting vehicles, 300 knapsack, 300 sprayers, 200 fire fighters as well as 80 supervisors have been deployed and engaged for the five days decontamination project.

During the flagging-off of the exercise, the Chairman of the COVID-19 Committee and the State Deputy Governor, Idi Barde Gubana, said the disinfection was in fulfilment of Governor Mai Mala Buni’s directive in ensuring that the state is free from Coronavirus.

“Despite, we have not recorded any COVID-19 case in Yobe State, the governor directed that the committee should ensure that all local governments are fumigated against any virus that may likely cause problems in the state,” he said.

According to him the exercise is targeting public spaces such as markets, worship centers (Churches and Mosques), Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government, among others.

Earlier, the State Commissioner of Environment, Sidi Yakubu Karasuwa, explained the significance of the exercise was to disinfect all the state’s local government and other public places in order to prevent the occurrence of contagious and deadly Coronavirus.

“The importance of the exercise is to disinfect and decontaminate the whole state to prevent possible outbreak and Spread of the virus and other infectious diseases.

The exercise, according to the Commissioner signified the commencement of the disinfection exercise across the 17 local governments in the state.
