Olusegun Bamgbose, Esq., National Coordinator Concerned Advocates for Good Governance, CAGG, has mocked Ibrahim Magu over his suspension as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, saying the hunter has become the hunted.

Bamgbose, while suggesting that President Muhammadu Buhari would announce Magu’s replacement in a couple of days, advised the Nigerian leader to go for a retired judge; “someone close to an angel to head the agency.”

DAILY POST reported on Tuesday that Magu was suspended as Acting Chairman of the EFCC by President Muhammadu Buhari after he spent the night in a police cell at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Headquarters in Abuja.

This followed a six-hour grilling by a presidential panel, chaired by Justice Ayo Salami, a former president of the Court of Appeal.

Bamgbose, a Lagos based senior lawyer, said the decision by the President to suspend Magu was in order.

In a chat with DAILY POST in reaction to the development, Bamgbose said, “The recent suspension of Ibrahim Magu, the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC is in order.

“The hunter has become the hunted. It’s expected that as the Acting Chairman of the anti corruption agency, he has to be above board. One can, however, not rule out power play but the allegations against him are weighty.

“The President must have consulted with the Presidential Panel set up to investigate him before the suspension. It’s obvious that the game is over for Ibrahim Magu.

“Nigerians should expect a new acting Chairman of EFCC in a couple of days. It’s never in doubt that the position of the Chairman of EFCC is the most tempting one in Nigeria.

“One will expect the Presidency to shortlist about 3 replacements and scrutinize them thoroughly before the appointment. It’s certainly the most challenging position in Nigeria.

“The level of corruption in Nigeria is very high. We need someone close to an angel to head the agency. One will humbly suggest a retired judge to take over from Magu.”
