Anthony Agbazuere, the Chief of Staff to the Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has sued for a ceasefire and peace among leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, following calls for resignation of the Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Chinedum Orji over alleged loyalty to the leader of the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.

This comes as the Deputy Chief of Staff in the office of the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Chief Don Ubani, and PDP prominent stakeholders, had demanded the resignation of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji, for allegedly pledging allegiance and loyalty to the leader of the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, in Abia, and current Senate Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.

Recall that the Speaker, Chinedum Orji was quoted as asking Kalu to return and take his rightful position in the State and further described Kalu as “Authentic leader” of Abia State.

The statement was made by the Speaker during his speech when he led delegation from Abia State to pledge loyalty to the current Senate Majority Chief Whip, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, after he was released from the federal prison in Abuja.

But, Orji, in a press release, by his Chief Press Secretary, Jude Chijioke Ndukwe, and made available in Umuahia, last Friday, asserted that he does not owe anyone explanation whatsoever, except Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and his colleagues in the house.

The reconciliation by the duo have continued to generate mixed feelings in the fold of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Abia State, with many PDP leaders describing the development as treacherous.

However, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Agbazuere, in a press statement made available to newsmen, in Umuahia, on Tuesday, posited that apart from the tantrums against the Speaker over his purported allegiance, Abia is PDP and would remain as PDP controlled state.

The former Abia Commissioner for Information, pleaded that it would be in the best interests of the people and the party, if the warring parties bury their grudges and as well, work collectively towards consolidating the gains so far recorded by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu-led Peoples Democratic Party administration in the state.

Agbazuere said, “I have been inundated, for some time now, with variegated comments from several groups and individuals on some issues in the state and I hereby urge everybody in the interest of the state to ceasefire forthwith.

“Abia State is a PDP State with a PDP Governor and a PDP majority House of Assembly and thus one family. All sides are to strictly comply. Let me also thank all Abians for their solidarity and prayers which God answered by healing our dear Governor, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, Ph.D.”
