The board of the Bauchi State Specialists’ Hospital in Bauchi on Monday made a case for the provision of accommodation for staff working in the emergency unit and consultants to help them discharge their duties diligently and efficiently.
The appeal was made to the state government by the newly appointed board chairman of the hospital, Dr Altine Lawal Bello, at a press conference held in the hospital premises.
This is even as she advocated operational and administrative autonomy to engage needed staff and sanction erring ones.
Dr Bello informed that upon its inauguration on 20th November 2020, the board members held their inaugural meeting immediately, following which they embarked on a familiarization tour of the hospital to identify its challenges.
According to her, lack of accommodation for consultants and emergency unit staff as well as inadequate human resources for health were some of the problems identified by the board.
She assured that in the next four years, the board will improve on the provision of quality secondary and tertiary health services to the people of the state.
“We are going to work to improve the provision of quality tertiary and secondary health services to the people by the specialists’ hospital by addressing the above challenges for the next four years,” she stated.
Dr Bello added that to improve the service delivery of the hospital, the board would work to obtain accreditation for the training of its personnel, including doctors, pharmacists, nurses, medical laboratory scientists, radiographers, physiotherapists, researchers as well as other allied medical professionals.
