Suspected herders on Tuesday unleashed terror on three women in a farm settlement in Irele-Ekiti, in Ikole Local Council Area of Ekiti State.
The incident came less than a month after two farmers were killed by herdsmen in Isaba-Ekiti, in the same local government area.
An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told our correspondent the gunmen, numbering six, invaded the farmstead around 4 am, demanded for money and wanted to rape the female farmers.
The source explained the gunmen matcheted them following their refusal to give them the money they demanded for and opposition to the rape attempts.
He added the victims, who sustained varying degrees of life-threatening injury were rushed to Ikole General Hospital in Ikole-Ekiti, where they are receiving medical treatment.
Ekiti Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) ASP Sunday Abutu, confirmed the incident, saying the command had begun investigations into the case. (The Nation)
